Summary:
John V. Wilmerding, Jr. was born September 5, 1948 in Atlanta, Georgia, the oldest child of Mary Virginia Reppert, an English teacher, psychologist, and poet, and John V. ‘Dyke’ Wilmerding, an aerospace engineer and charter sailboat captain. He attended public schools in Long Island, NY, and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Hiram Scott College in Scottsbluff, NE, and his Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a non-profit emphasis, from Binghamton University in New York.
John, an active Quaker, is a lifetime organizer and activist for peace, social justice, and other progressive causes. An accomplished organization scientist, fund raiser, human services professional, arts administrator, impresario, theoretician/strategist, and poet, he has founded several organizations and initiatives, the latest of which are John Woolman College of Active Peace and the Campaign for Community Solar.
He is currently involved in efforts to rapidly spread community-based solar power initiatives, as a way of greatly increasing the visibility of various efforts toward renewable energy, and powerfully pushing the fossil- and nuclear-dependent west into the Solar Age.
John lives in Brattleboro, VT, with his wife Carmen, a successful freelance translator (>German) and their four grown children, ranging in age from 17-26.
