Use Biodiesel

Category: Transportation

Initiative Objective:

Initiative Objective

Biodiesel is alternative fuel, which is clean burning, biodegradable, non-toxic and made from domestic and renewable resources, including vegetable oil, animal oil/fats, tallow, soybeans and waste cooking oil. Compared to petroleum diesel, it has lower emissions and is considerably less hazardous to the environment. Using biodiesel helps to support our national economy and lessens our dependence on foreign oil. Biodiesel is produced through a process called transesterification, which helps to create a more engine-friendly product than straight vegetable oil. Strict industry standards exist for biodiesel and to be sold as fuel, it must meet industry specifications and be registered with the Environmental Protection Agency. Over 1200 biodiesel fueling stations are inexistence, and more are planned, helping to improve our country’s alternative fuel infrastructure..
