Description

The GBCE/ The Green Team is a non-profit community development corporation that creates jobs in the areas of Brownfields remediation, Energy Conservation, Deconstruction, Re-Use and Recycling and trains low to moderate income persons for the skills needed to work in these areas. Training in organized into Clusters defined by each industry area. Brownfields includes Lead and Asbestos abatement, Mold remediation, Confined Space; Energy Conservation includes Weatherization Technician, BPI Building Analyst and BPI Building Envelope; Deconstruction includes classroom and On-The-Job Training, OSHA 30. GBCE The Green Team also trains workers for mattress recycling, one of the new activities for which jobs have been created. Students are encouraged to "cross train" so that all may take Lead abatement because lead paint is found in so many homes and commercial building in our Region. All students are required to take OSHA 10, and all are encourag ed to take OSHA 30, Carpentry and Renovation, Repair and Painting, a recent US EPA certifiaction requirement for home improvement contractors.

In the last 4 years GBCE/The Green Team has trained 172 students and has placed 125 of them in well-paying green jobs. Students are un- or under-employed, qualifying for many government funding sources through which GBCE/The Green Team has attracted grants. The benefit from this program comes to students who gain important skills needed by employers and by the Green Team itself. Our communities also benefit from the removal of hazardous materials, the energy savings for our families, and the recycling of materials that would otherwise encumber the waste stream and cost our communities environmental safety and cleanliness.
