Farmers’ markets are a great way to buy delicious farm-fresh produce, and support the local food infrastructure in your community. Over the years, farmers’ markets have grown in popularity and offer more variety than ever before. Depending on the climate, farmers’ markets are either seasonal, or permanent fixtures in the townscape. Not only do the markets offer just picked freshness, but often provide produce that is organically grown, meats that are raised humanely, handmade cheeses, eggs and poultry from free-range fowl, as well as heirloom produce and local specialties. Items from farmers’ markets tend to have much less packaging than their grocery store counterparts and travel hundreds of miles less than commercial produce. In addition to all of the eco-benefits of a farmers’ market there is also the wonderful provide shoppers with a real sense of community.
