The Urban Roots CSA will help fund the Urban Roots youth program, which uses sustainable agriculture as a means to transform the lives of young people as they increase the access of healthy food in Austin. Each week you will pick up your bag of produce from your designated market, either the Austin Farmers' Market Downtown on Saturdays or the Austin Farmers' Market at the Triangle on Wednesdays.

We have a 17 week CSA which will run from mid March until mid July. Your share will consist of a variety of vegetables and herbs grown on the Urban Roots farm and will change on a weekly basis. One share will supply a family of 2-4 fresh produce for a week, depending on your eating habits. Our cost is slightly higher to be sensitive to other farmers in Austin. Urban Roots is a non-profit organization that engages and empowers young people to become leaders in their community through sustainable agriculture. By joining the Urban Roots CSA you will be directly supporting the youth in our program and ensure that we can continue providing them with exciting youth development opportunities on the Urban Roots farm.

Urban Roots is a non-profit, youth development program that uses sustainable agriculture to transform the lives of young people and increases the healthy food access in Austin. TIn our third year, we farmed on over 3.5 acres and hired 30 teenagers to work on our urban organic farm. Urban Roots provides employment, life skills and service opportunities to youth ages 14-17 in East Austin. Youth farm interns plant, maintain, harvest, market and share a wide range of organic fruits, vegetables and herbs. In 2010, we harvested over 26,000 pounds of produce. 40% of our harvest is distributed to hunger relief organizations such as Caritas, Capital Area Food Bank, Casa Marianella and Meals on Wheels and More.
