Description
We offer fresh vegetables from early May through mid-September in our summer baskets. We specialize in varieties of salad greens and mixes, including several varieties of lettuce, chard, arugula, kale, spinach & mesclun, as well as many herbs. High summer season includes peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, carrots, beets, broccoli, onions, garlic, herbs, cabbage, cukes, beans, peas, potatoes, melons, squash, and many other vegetables. Fall baskets, priced separately (mid-Sept through mid-November) include salad greens, root veggies, grapes, herbs, pears, potatoes, winter squash, pumpkins, green onions, late peppers, brussels sprouts, and more.
Old Loon Farm is located between Old Lake and Loon Lake in Whitley County, northern Indiana. In addition to 10 acres of tillable land, we have 20 acres of woodland and frontage on Old Lake. Since 2002, we have transformed the former soybean field into a small working farm with barns, hayfields, fenced pastures, flowers, vegetable gardens and a fledgling orchard.
As much as possible, on Old Loon Farm we use organic and heirloom seed and plants, as well a natural and sustainable methods of fertilizing and pest control, including crop rotation and fallowing fields, light cultivation, mulching, composting and natural manure. Our laying hens are free-range and chickens are pastured, raised without antibiotics or growth hormones.
