Description

Birch Point Farm
Your membership in the farm will allow us to supply you and up to 39 other members with a weekly box of beautiful, nutritious seasonal veggies, herbs, and occasional flowers and fruit. A share is intended to feed a family of four, or 2-3 veggie lovers. If you can't use an entire share, consider canning, drying, and freezing the rest for yummy local produce through the winter! Some members find a friend to split a share if it's too much for them to use. You'll pick up your share Tuesday evenings at the farm or Saturday mornings at the Traverse City farmer\' market. We include a weekly e-newsletter with descriptions of new items, recipe and storage ideas, and farm news.

Birch Point Farm is a CSA farm in lovely northwest lower Michigan, located between Lake Leelanau and the west arm of Grand Traverse Bay. We specialize in heirloom vegetables, herbs, and cut flowers, which we market through our CSA, the Traverse City farmers' market, and local wholesale accounts. We currently grow annuals on only a small piece of the 20 total acres, but plan to put in permaculture-based plantings of fruit and nut trees, brambles, berries, asparagus, and table grapes over the next few years. Michelle has worked on four other CSA farms in Massachusetts and Michigan, including the MSU Student Organic Farm, where she was the farm manager and helped to start the year-round CSA program.

Pick Up/Drop Off Points:
Birch Point Farm
You can pick up your share Tuesday afternoon/evening at the farm, located 8 miles from downtown TC. For on-farm pick ups, we use a "buffet" style distribution -- we'll put out that morning's harvest on a table in the barn, and post a list of how much you can take of each item. You bring your own cooler, bags, or boxes, and "shop" from the table. Sometimes extra items will be available on the farm, and you'll be able to share recipe ideas or trade items with other members if you like.

If you cannot make it to the farm Tuesday p.m. you can pick up your pre-boxed share (harvested Friday) from our stall at the farmers' market Saturday morning. You may miss some of the "extras" available for on-farm shares, but you'll be able to shop from the rest of the market when you pick up your share. Farmers' market pick-up requires a one-time $30 packing/handling fee.
