The CELEBRATE SOLARIZE solar tour in Canton on April 13 from 1 PM to 4 PM will feature an electric/gas hybrid plug-in car and solar electric panels. Experts in solar technology and electric/gas hybrid vehicles will be part of two seminars at 1 PM and 3 PM. The purchase of solar electric panels could allow the homeowner to charge his automobile using solar power. The charge would cover an 18 mile commute, enough power to guarantee the use of free fuel from the sun. The hybrid car can use the gas motor for longer journeys.

The tour will also include the knowledgeable owners, geothermal and insulation experts and information on LED lighting. Representatives from the Connecticut Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority as well as the Canton Energy Task Force will describe the wonderful new SOLARIZE option. This program is designed to encourage the adoption of residential photovoltaic installations that provide increased savings to homeowners as more people in SOLARIZE communities install solar.

The new tour home has a direct exchange DX geothermal closed loop system which supplies all the heat and hot water. Low-e windows, LED undercounter lighting, extensive day lighting, a stone floor that absorbs passive solar heat, an open floor plan, radiant floor heat, Energy Star appliances, a fascinating energy efficient fireplace grate and a superb insulation system make this home noteworthy. 36 monocrystalline SunPower panels comprise the 8.1 kW system, partially funded through CEFIA’s Residential Solar Investment Program. The solar system supplies over one third of the home’s electricity. The tour will also include information about statewide new energy rebates, inventions and equipment.

The tour seminar is sponsored by People’s Action for Clean Energy (PACE). It is cosponsored by the Connecticut Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority. Nonrefundable tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at New England Appliance, 220 Albany Turnpike in the CantonVillage shopping center. To order tickets online go to www.pace-cleanenergy.org and click on Events. Tickets may be also be ordered from PACE, c/o Pam McDonald, 995 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT06070.
